Peaches the palomino was found safe
and sound Monday in the Knowlton County where
she went missing.
A New
York family is frantically searching for their horse, Peaches, who went missing
Thursday night in Warren County. Peaches is a 4-year-old, 15.1-hand Palomino
Paint Mare. She has a bald face, gold body, bright white mane and tail, four
white socks and a splash near her knee. She does not have a halter and is
up-to-date on all vaccinations, according to an e-mail from owner Colleen
Segarra. She was last seen Thursday night on Knowlton Road in Knowlton Township.
Family and authorities have searched the farm and surrounding woods and trails
since Friday morning. Bait stations with horse feed were set up, but without
success. Sagarra says in the e-mail that the horse belongs to her teenage
daughter, who is devastated by her disappearance. "Peaches is a family member,
very much loved and terribly missed," Sagarra writes. "If you see a horse
like this, please report it ASAP. If you have her please return her. If you
bought her not knowing the situation, we will not hassle you and will buy
her back. Please help bring Peaches home." Stolen Horse International has
created fliers with information on Peaches. New Jersey State Police at the
Hope barracks have been involved in the search, but they did not have an update
on Peaches this morning. Segarra could not be reached for additional comment
this morning.

UPDATE: Missing horse named Peaches found safe in Knowlton Township
A Knowlton Township resident spotted the mare and contacted owner Colleen
Segarra, who has been crisscrossing the region handing out fliers about the
wayward horse. Click to read how Eloise Schooley described finding Peaches
in a yard on Ramseyburg Road. When she wandered away Thursday, Peaches was
on loan to a township resident, who needed a temporary companion for an elderly
horse whose regular companion horse was away for training. Segarra runs a
rescue, rehabilitation and adoption business in Orange County, N.Y. Peaches,
she said, is beloved by her daughter. "I never want to see my daughter look
like that again," Segarra said, recalling her child's reaction to news that
Peaches was gone. "It broke my heart to see her heartbroken." The horse suffered
some scratches and separation anxiety but emerged from her adventure otherwise
unscathed, Segarra said. Initially, Segarra feared someone had stolen the
4-year-old horse and was trying to sell her.

The Cat's Diary:
Day 983 of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little
dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates
and I are fed some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the
rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep
up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape.
In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.
Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I
had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates
my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what
a "good little hunter" I am. Jerks! There was some sort of assembly of their
accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration
of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard
that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what
this means, and how to use it to my advantage. Today I was almost successful
in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet
as he was walking.
I must try this again tomorrow, but at the top of the stairs. I am convinced
that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives
special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing
to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird must be an informant. I observe
him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my
every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated
cell, so he is safe. For now.

Meanwhile...A Letter to The Editor arrives... At
the May 4 town meeting, with his Knowlton fan club, the usual camp followers and
a few citizens in attendance. Town of Brome Lake mayor, Richard Wisdom, in the
most authoritative voice he could muster, declared that English on the "Centre
Lac Brome" signs " a dead horse".His Worship, a native of east end Montreal who dropped in for dinner 30 years ago then unfortunately never left, is now busy rearranging his hosts furniture. Never impressed with local history or the resident English community and acceding to the wishes of the shadowy Fondation Carke Inc. and our imported Anglophobic town manager Jean Bourret. The mayor and apparently BCN correspondent Jessica Brown (May 12), have ruled on the issue "once and for all". Pretend defender and English language bender and blender, councilor Alain Gauthier, exercising his TBL version of integrity, completed his 180 degree turnaround and proposed the illegal 3 year old "no English and never submitted to council ," signs be approved. Our dead zone council, after 3 years of maintaining the " bilingual" subterfuge and cover up, unanimously agreed. 200 years of English on civic buildings in Knowlton was temporally interrupted. Going forward, Mr. Wisdom chided me for my "unfair, very unfair" references to mentor Jean Bourret's non-resident status. Imagine anyone being "unfair" to Jean Bourret, I feared a being struck down by divine intervention. Indignant, councilor George Bristol joined the mayor in Bourret ego stroking with " one of the finest men I've ever known" and " were lucky to have him". Comfortably retired and on the town payroll, the expatriate West Bromer might not feel quite as "lucky" if he was a young Anglo seeking employment at Mr. Bourret's judiciously maintained English free, Anglo free, 0% representation " Lac Brome " city hall. Alain Roy, town clerk, announced yet another town hall hiring. Meeting stringent Ville de Lac Brome and Jean Bourret standards, the new Francophone student recruit, clipboard in hand, will seek out "contraventions" amongst the citizenry. He joins the "Big Brother" fraternity of the building inspector, the chimney inspector, the fire inspector, the septic tank inspector, the crucial lawn fertilizer inspector and I suspect at least one clandestine sign inspector. Must be getting crowded at the Mairie Ville de Lac Brome's 122 Lakeside office ! SPECULATION....An appeal for funding a huge " New Town Hall " can't be too far off, Anglos, hang on to your money. PREDICTION... When all the money is collected "Town Hall" will morph into" Hotel de Ville" only, don't get fooled again. Douglas Alexander, a self confessed long time 6 year resident, lamented my ongoing hostilities. Sighting administration cooperation in changing the zoning on the previously residential Victoria St to accommodate his art gallery. He left after delivering his accolades. Mr. Alexander might want to talk to the owners of Stonehaven or LJH Transport, their town business experiences may differ from his. Jean Bourret, of all people, announced the formation of a TBL "ethics" committee. The committee would be bilingual he explained, not as a concession to English speakers of course, but in order to receive federal funding. Bourret "fool the feds", TBL "ethics" in action. While our mercenary, highly paid town manager needs the word "ethics" and its meaning explained, I would not recommend his querying any of his council confreres. Ethics and the TBL administration, like water and oil, don't mix. Despite pronouncements from on low, English will be given space on the building. Worst case, in November, when city hall is cleared of trash and representative integrity is hopefully restored. Were in the right, we can't lose. English on a sign is not considered an obscenity in the rest of the free world and it's not going to be here in its native Brome county. The obscenity here, is in green and gold and hangs on the community centre. "Centre Lac Brome". Bilingual signs, like November, are coming soon. Morris Croghan Fulford, Quebec, Canada.
